Od siedmych rokov sa venuje vodnému slalomu. Preteká v kategórii K 1. V reprezentácií je od  roku 1993. Už ako juniorka štartovala dva krát na majstrovstvách sveta juniorov za ČSFR, kde získala 4. miesto. Svoju prvú medailu získala na ME v Nemecku v roku 1996, ktorá mala bronzový lesk a svoj prvý titul majsterky Európy v Roudnici nad Labem v roku 1998. Vrchol jej kariéry nastal v roku 2004, keď zvíťazila v štyroch pretekoch svetového pohára a tiež zvíťazila na ME. Na OH v Aténach sa stala prvou slovenskou olympijskou víťazkou a najlepšou športovkyňou SR. Rok na to sa stáva v Austrálii majsterkou a v roku 2007 vicemajsterkou sveta. V roku 2008 získava na OH v Pekingu svoj druhý titul olympijskej víťazky. Celkovo získava na ME 13 medailí, z toho 7 zlatých. V celkovom hodnotení svetového pohára zvíťazila šesť krát.

Canoe slalom 

Canoe  slalom is a water sport taking place on  white water rapids. Competitors, in canoe or kayak, are trying to go through a course of gates as fast as they can and without making any mistakes. It is one of the two summer olympic sports using canoe or kayak. The second one is canoe sprint. In 1972, it  was the first time the slalom appeared at Olympic games, the second time it was 20 years later -  in the year 1992.

Slalom gate consists of two vertically hung poles attached to a  wire over  the route. The gates are either red or green depending on the direction of  entering the gate  –  along or against the water´s  flow. There are usually from 18 up to 25 gates on the course. A competitor must go through the gates in certain order and without touching the poles. Touching is penalized by two-second time penalty. Missing a  gate,  or coming through a gate in wrong direction, or coming through gates in wrong order is penalized, in compliance with the rules, by 50-second time penalty.

Kayak is a small human-powered vessel, steered  by a paddle,  originated in Nordic countries. Eskimos used it for hunting and transport.   The paddle used for steering the  kayak is called double-bladed paddle.  A person, a paddler,  sits in a kayak. Kayaks are very flat, maneuvrable excellently and fast.
